St. Monica Lubao Secondary School in Kakamega was filled with excitement on Saturday, July 19, as it received a brand-new school bus from Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP) Fred Ikana.

The donation,  presented during a lively handover ceremony at the school, fulfills the MP’s promise to support transport needs for students and the wider Lubao community in Isukha North ward.

Speaking during the ceremony, MP Ikana expressed his satisfaction in fulfilling his pledge and emphasized that the bus would not only serve St. Monica Lubao but also benefit the surrounding community, including neighboring schools like Bukhaywa Secondary and Ingolomosio.

The bus is expected to ease the logistical challenges students have been facing, including traveling for academic symposiums, sports events, and other extracurricular activities. It will also be available for church and community functions on a need basis.

MP Ikana went further to assure the school administration that his office will facilitate fueling for school programmes and cautioned the principal against demanding fuel levies from students. “No student should be sent home over fuel charges. That’s my responsibility,” he affirmed.

In his remarks, the MP announced that another school bus will be commissioned next month at Solyo Secondary School. He also revealed that President William Ruto had acknowledged appeals for new buses from Shikusa Borstal Institution and Friends Secondary School–Handidi.

School Principal Peter Echesa expressed his deep gratitude to the MP and the NG-CDF committee. “You have given me a machine that is going to support these students,” he said, praising the MP’s commitment and the team’s unity in bringing the plan to fruition.

Mr. Echesa also took the opportunity to request support for a new dormitory for female students to ease pressure for girls.
