Form three student dies in a road accident at Lukolis market, Busia

A sombre mood engulfed Father Okodoi Secondary School and Lukolis Market in Teso Central, Busia County, on Thursday morning after two Form Three students were knocked down by a trailer on their way to school.

Tragically, a female student died on the spot, while her male schoolmate sustained minor injuries in the 5:00 am incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the two students were walking along the road when the trailer, which was heading from Busia towards Malaba, struck them from behind.

“Before hitting them, the trailer nearly ran over two women just a few metres from the market. It appears the driver was dozing off before the accident occurred,” said one witness.

Angry residents, overcome with grief, set the trailer ablaze after the incident. The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately.

Police arrived at the scene and moved the girl’s body to Alupe Sub-County Hospital mortuary. They have since launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
