Keiyo North Member of Parliament, (MP) has called on the national government to expedite the release of schools capitation funds to public schools, amid growing concerns over strained operations and halted learning activities.
MP Adams Kipsanai said that the continued delay put many schools in dire state as they struggle to stay afloat.
“Some schools have had their operations completely grounded. They simply cannot function without the capitation they’ve depended on for years,” Kipsanai said while addressing the press at Iten Primary School.
He noted that Parliament had already played its part in the process, stating, “As far as appropriation is concerned, the National Assembly has done its job. It’s now up to the relevant ministries to act.”
The MP also lauded the role of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in sustaining education, criticizing calls for its abolishment.

“Without NG-CDF, many schools would be in an even worse state. Scrapping it would be a big mistake,” he said.
Education stakeholders have also joined the call, demanding not only timely disbursement but also an increase in capitation funds, saying the current amount is insufficient to meet the growing needs of learners.
Despite repeated assurances from the Ministry of Education, head teachers and school boards say frustration is building due to continued delays that disrupt school programs and burden parents.
“We’re being forced to make tough choices daily,” one school head, who requested anonymity, told press. “The delay in funding is putting an incredible strain on both staff and students.”
With the academic term underway, school administrators and lawmakers are urging the Treasury and Ministry of Education to move swiftly before the situation deteriorates further.
