Kisii traders accuse politicians of using school children in Saba Saba protests

Kisii traders have accused local politicians of using school children in the yesterday, infamous Saba Saba protest which engulf the nation in state of disarray.

Led by Jane Matiabe, the small scale business people in Kisii town accused rogue politicians who involved school children to demonstrate for what they did not understand.

“These people came with school children as young as thirteen years old in school uniform and threatened traders at Daraja Mbili market who feared to open their businesses.” She said.

She asked the police to investigate the matter and arrest the suspects to face the law.

Matiabe asked the youth to avoid involving themselves in hooliganism but instead to settle down and seek guidance from elders on how money is created instead of engaging themselves in violence which consumes a lot time that could be used in profitable production.

The demonstrators who sang of songs demanding change in the leadership of the country crowded at Kisii round in the morning hours but as their number increased they started singing and threatened to close or loot the shops who owner did not close to join them in the demonstrations.

They were restrained from disturbances in the town centre by joint efforts of the police and owners who guarded their businesses.

At Ogembo town, businesses went on as usual as a few youth held peaceful demonstrations along Ogembo- Kilgoris road as they solicited money from motorists.

Ogembo town chairman Julius Marisa thanked them for holding the demonstrations peacefully without interrupting business.

“This time round they did not burn vehicle tyres on the road but only sang and went.” He said.

The chairman thanked the police from Ogembo station for giving the youth easy time to express their views peacefully and asked other policemen from the rest of the country to copy them.

A spot check by Education News confirmed that there was peace in most towns such as Kenyenya, Etago, Nyamarambe and Marani in Kisii County being calm as businesses went uninterrupted.

In some places like Suneka, Nyamache and Nyanturago, pupils did not go to school except in the afternoon when they ascertained that the expected Saba Saba riots by rogue youth, did not occur and affect schools.
