CS Wandayi pledges to employ youth who pursued Electrical Engineering

The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi had pledged to employ youth who pursued a Bachelor’s degree, diploma and certificate in Electrical Engineering course

The CS  made the remarks at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) after he had accompanied Kakamega Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa during the Kakamega County youth leadership dialogue forum

He said most of the issues articulating around was job opportunities and reaffirmed his commitment in partnership with the County government to select one engineering graduate in every constituency

He asked the graduands in the forum to forward their names within this week in order to be employed in the ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

Opiyo said for a long time it’s a wonderful initiative that has to be embraced in other Counties lauding governor Barasa for his commitment to youth affairs.

“As government, we have come to a couscous initiative that we don’t pretend we understand issues and that is why this kind of session is impactful because listening is a starting point, when we visit you we get to understand in a better way issues that will continue to work.” Said the CS

Governor Barasa reiterated that the ministry has task and responsibility to ensure they extend the coverage of electrification across the country in addition energy is a key driver for economic growth and therefore in creation of job opportunities.

The County boss pointed out that one of the strategies to curb unemployment is through industrialization which would create employment to the youth.

Governor revealed of a very high youth unemployment rate stating that countrywide is 67 percent while Kakamega County is at 35 percent.

Barasa said the main objective of coming up with the initiative of addressing the gap is that they have a responsibility as government to ensure create employment opportunities.

“As your governor, i have taken a deliberate initiative to make sure that youth are given priority.” He remarked
During the event all the policy initiatives starting with the youth were tackled by the Youth Affairs  PS Fikirini Jacobs who emphasized job opportunities among them.
