Lamu County on July 2 hosted secondary school teachers from across the Coast region for a familiarization tour of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) and Lamu Island, ahead of the Coast Regional Secondary School Games.
The teachers are in Lamu for the games set to begin on Thursday, July 4, at Mpeketoni Boys Secondary School and run until July 5. Lamu Governor Issa Timamy is expected to officially open the event.
The County Government organized the tour to showcase the county’s development progress and unique cultural heritage. The visiting teachers were given a guided tour of the LAPSSET corridor and later explored Lamu Island’s historical and cultural sites.

Tourism Chief Officer Joyce Murimi, who accompanied the group, said the initiative aimed to promote Lamu as both a tourism and investment destination.
“Lamu has a lot to offer, from major infrastructure like LAPSSET to its rich history and culture. We hope this visit inspires you to return,” she told the teachers.
The educators praised the tour, calling it informative and eye opening. Many said the visit had changed their perception of Lamu and expressed interest in returning with students, families and fellow teachers.
The gesture is part of the county’s broader strategy to strengthen inter county ties through sports, tourism and cultural exchange.
