Bunyore TTC gets Ksh6 million boost from NGCDF to build dormitories

Bunyore TTC students follow remarks from the Mp

Bunyore Teachers Training College has received a KSh 6 million boost from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) to support the construction of two new student dormitories.

The funds were officially presented today by the area Member of Parliament during a visit to the institution.

Omboko Milemba, MP for Emuhaya, flanked by NGCDF officials, the college’s Board of Management, and Bunyore TTC staff, stated that the money would be allocated toward building separate dormitories for male and female students, aimed at alleviating congestion and enhancing student welfare.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the legislator seized the opportunity to raise critical concerns affecting teacher trainees nationwide.

He pledged to petition Parliament to allow teacher training college (TTC) students to seek accommodation outside of college premises, a move he said would give students more autonomy and relieve pressure on institutional housing.

He also called for reforms to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding model to include TTC and medical training college students groups currently excluded from full financial aid available to university students.

“It is unjust that some students are denied government support simply because of the institutions they attend. All learners deserve equal opportunity,” said the MP.

The MP further urged the government to address the plight of unemployed P1 teachers, many of whom remain jobless despite being fully qualified.

“Thousands of trained teachers are idle while classrooms remain understaffed. This is a gap that must be urgently filled,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to championing the rights of learners and educators, saying education remains the cornerstone of national progress.

“Education is the most powerful tool we have to shape our future. We will continue to support institutions like Bunyore TTC and push for policy changes that reflect the needs of our students and teachers,” he added.

The donation is expected to significantly improve living conditions at the college, with construction of the dormitories set to begin in the coming weeks.
