Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology benefits from wheelchair donation

Dorothy Nyong’o led the donation of 80 wheelchairs at JOOUST to support people with Parkinson’s and other disabilities.

Dorothy Nyong’o, the First Lady of Kisumu County and Patron of the Nyanza Chapter of the Parkinson’s Support Group of Kenya, led the handover of 80 wheelchairs on June 12, 2025, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) city campus in Kisumu to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and other disabilities.

The donation was made possible through a partnership between the Chair of the Love Foundation and the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, as part of a broader initiative that saw 280 wheelchairs distributed across the country.

The wheelchair donation is part of an annual distribution program spearheaded by Chair the Love Foundation, which mobilises support from well-wishers to provide mobility aids to persons with disabilities.

This year’s campaign included JOOUST as a beneficiary for the first time, thanks to the collaborative involvement of the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton.

Out of the 280 wheelchairs donated nationwide, 80 were allocated to JOOUST’s campus in Kisumu.

A portion of these was distributed to individuals living with Parkinson’s disease through the office of Dorothy Nyong’o, coordinated by Caroline Agwanda, a long-standing advocate for people with disabilities in Kisumu County.

The initiative not only aimed to restore physical mobility but also sought to uphold dignity, inclusion, and quality of life for persons living with disabilities.

Leaders at the event called on more organisations and individuals to step forward and support causes that champion the rights and well-being of those with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
