Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has intensified efforts to create safe and child-friendly learning environments across the county through major investments in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
While touring Ikolomani Sub-County, the governor announced the completion of Ikhulili ECDE Centre and confirmed that Irechelo ECDE Centre is now operational. He added that Shichinji ECDE Centre is under construction as part of a wider initiative involving over 60 ECDE projects across the region.
“We are committed to giving our children a strong start in life by investing in safe and conducive learning spaces,” said the governor.
“These projects are a testament to our belief that every child in Kakamega deserves a nurturing environment to begin their educational journey,” Governor Barasa emphasised.

His administration has prioritised ECDE as a key component of the education agenda by equipping centres with child-friendly furniture, clean water, and modern sanitation.
Local leaders and parents have praised the move, citing improved enrolment and morale among learners.
“Our children now have a dignified place to learn, and this has motivated both learners and teachers,” said one of the residents.
The initiative supports the national vision of early childhood development, says Governor.
