Pupils of St Monica Comprehensive School in Malaba South walked for over 7kms to the Deputy County Commissioner’s offices in Amagoro, demanding for the transfer of head teacher Anthony Abuchi.
Amagoro Division Officer Commanding Police Division Charles Chepkonga was the received the striking pupils when they arrived in Amagoro flanked by Amagoro Assistant County Commissioner, Patrick Kowon.
They were joined by Sub County Director of Education Elizabeth Marangach and Sub County TSC Director Wabwoba, KNUT Teso North Executive Secretary Geoffrey Ekasiba, Amagoro CSO, Michael Ogollah, and Gender Secretary, Kuppet, Grace Ipala.

The pupils told Marangach that they are only fed on githeri every day, instead of ugali and chapati, considering that education in Kenya is free. They also expressed disappointment that they failed to travel for drama festivals despite qualifying.

Marangach, while urging the pupils to go back to school as their matter was being addressed, noted that their mandate is to read and delegate their representatives to seek the audience with education office instead of marching through the streets.
“Teso North registered the best results last year, noting that instead of focusing on KPSEA and KSJEA, the pupils should focus on their studies,” Marangach said.
The sub county director TSC ordered that the pupils be transported back to their school as the education officials prepared to visit the school on a fact-finding mission before making a decision.
Ekasiba regretted the incident, which saw the pupils walk for several kilometers in such of justice, terming it unfortunate.
