The National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) has appointed Dr David Ngigi as its Acting Director General, effective May 1, 2025.
Dr. Ngigi steps into the role following Prof Walter O. Oyawa’s departure as Director General.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Ngigi was the Director of Advisory, Standards, and Licensing at NACOSTI, where he helped shape the commission’s regulatory and advisory framework.

His appointment marks a new chapter for NACOSTI, which continues to steer the country’s science, technology, and innovation agenda.
“Dr Ngigi succeeds Prof. Walter O. Oyawa. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of Advisory, Standards, and Licensing at NACOSTI. We wish Dr Ngigi great success in his new role as he leads the Commission into its next phase,” statement reads.
Dr Ngigi is expected to provide strategic leadership as the commission works to enhance research governance, promote innovation, and strengthen partnerships across the public and private sectors.
NACOSTI has not announced the timeline or process for appointing a substantive Director General.
