Kenya Industrial Estate (KIE) has urged schools to encourage learners to be given opportunity to be tree planting ambassadors in their respective institutions to curb the effects of climate change.

KIE regional manager Rhoda Adolwa while conducting the tree planting exercise at Friends Malava Comprehensive School, stressed the need to have school going children be actively involved in nature conservation through encouraging them to participate in tree planting exercise, adding that this will see the 15Billion trees target be attained by the year 2032as directed by the government.

“Schools and other institutions of learning are the best places to initiate this massive tree planting exercise as it will encourage the learners to take up the practice to their homes and also embrace it fully as they will have known its importance. The country has a target that needs to be attained, and  once reached will restore its forest cover,” she said.

“Kenya industrial estate Kakamega county branch has visited both Amalemba and Malavai comprehensive schools in both Lurambi and Malava constituencies where we have donated 500 trees per school for planting purposes, as part of 1500 trees to be planted this financial year, and we are optimistic that next year we will grow our target to cover a wider area,” Adolwa added.
