The County Government of Kajiado has stated that Uji Program which entailed provision of daily porridge to all Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centers in the county was stopped due to low quality porridge.

This was revealed by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Janet Sereu who appeared before The County Assembly Committee on Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports.

The CECM said that after termination of the contract the department also attributed the failure to budget constraints and lack of interest from new suppliers during the retendering process.

The Committee chaired by Joshua Saigilu MCA Loodokilani expressed concern over the department’s oversight in allowing substandard food consumed by learners

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the provision of the daily porridge to the learners in the county was signed in October 2024.
