Kisii Diocese Bishop Okemwa Mairura has asked parents not to give too much freedom to their children during the December holiday.

Speaking at Nyamagwa Parish when equipping their hospital with modern medical equipment and drugs, the Bishop said that parents have a huge responsibility of nurturing their children and should embrace it by minimizing their movements and controlling their activities.

“Children are naturally active and keep on directing their minds towards actions and discovery. Let parents exploit this advantage by engaging them in productive activities like picking tea or learning home crafts to expend their energy,” he said.

He said that parents can determine the future character of their children by instilling in them societal values like hardwork, honesty, self-control and empathy.

The Bishop told parents to help their children shape themselves by reading the word of God for spiritual growth that will cushion them against evil indulgences like sexual intercourse before marriage, drug and substance abuse, and petty theft.

The MP promised to promote education and religion in the region because they are the requisites to promoting peace.

He asked university students to guide their brothers and sisters in both secondary and primary school.

Motume asked the youth to use the long holiday to discover their talents other than their class work by joining local football clubs and choirs for new skills.
