Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) attached to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) have apprehended one of the masterminds behind leakage of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam papers.
Stephen Nyangau Mbeche, was identified as the administrator of a Telegram group allegedly dedicated to leaking KCSE papers.
The arrest follows a detailed surveillance operation by DCI officials in collaboration with their counterparts in Masaba North constituency.
At Mbeche’s premises, law enforcement officers confiscated a mobile phone and a laptop believed to be the primary devices used in facilitating the exam cheating scheme.
Mbeche reportedly exploited parents by charging for access to exam papers and answers. Investigations are underway to gather additional evidence and identify accomplices involved in the scheme.
KNEC and law enforcement agencies have emphasized their commitment to tackling exam malpractices to protect the integrity of Kenya’s national examinations system.
