The national government has extended contracts for the provision of a comprehensive medical insurance scheme for civil servants, which was administered by The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
This is according to a notice issued by State Department for Public Service Principal Secretary (PS) Amos Gathecha, which indicated that the department, in consultation with Social Health Authority (SHA), has agreed to extend the contract up to November 21, 2024.
This will enable seamless transition and effective service delivery to the scheme beneficiaries, even as the move to SHA is posing many difficulties.

The contract had been executed for a period of one year with effect from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 and was extended again for three months up to September 30, 2024,.
The scheme covers national government employees in ministries and State departments, officers seconded to the county government, and staff of the National Youth Service (NYS).
