The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) refuted what it described as misinformation about the identity of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha in a statement to the media on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Jumaisi Khalusha, the primary suspect in the Kware killings, had confessed to being responsible for the deaths of forty-two women.
The directorate attributed the misinformation to Francis Gaitho (@Faitho237), an X user known for allegedly issuing a misleading statement by inaccurately stating the suspect’s name.
Gaitho’s post suggested that there was no public record of Khalusha and mistakenly identified another innocent Kenyan, Jairus Onkundi, as the suspect.
According to the DCI, the incorrect information contained names, images, and descriptions of Onkundi, leading to considerable distress.
Several hours later, Jairus Onkundi Morwabe, a 24-year-old graduate of Meru University of Science and Technology, turned himself in to the DCI due to concerns for his safety.
“Hours later in the afternoon, our Complaints Directorate received a shaken young man in the names of Jairus Onkundi Morwabe aged 24 years and a graduate from Meru University of Science and Technology, who was surrendering himself to the authorities for clearance from any culpability in the ongoing investigation. ” the statement from DCI reads.
“Jairus is a bachelor’s degree holder in Computer Science from the named university, a course he undertook between 2019 and 2023.”
Detectives stated that while at his workplace in Parklands, Nairobi, Onkundi reported receiving multiple concerned messages from family and friends.

“Jairus has since been given the necessary assistance from the side of the police, and this press briefing provides an opportunity to clarify to the members of the public that the 24-year-old is not a criminal, and neither is he wanted by the DCI for any reason whatsoever.” the statement reads.
Khalusha, a 33-year-old murder suspect, was apprehended at a Kayole club on Sunday night with numerous SIM cards in their possession.
He is suspected of being responsible for the deaths of the victims and wrapping their bodies in polythene bags discovered at the dumpsite.
The suspect was transported to the DCI headquarters in Kiambu, where they awaited additional police procedures.
