20 Kisumu Girls students get full sponsorship from region’s leaders

Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga. She has joined other leaders from the region to sponsor 20 students of Kisumu Girls who are needy and brilliant.

A total of 20 bright but needy students at the Kisumu Girls National School have received a major boost after several leaders pledged to pay their school fees.

The students are part of the 38 learners in the institution who are beneficiaries of an endowment fund for their education.

The leaders who pledged to assist the students will sponsor five students each.

They include Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda, Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Dr Joshua Oron, and Kisumu woman representative Ruth Odinga.

The announcements were made during a funds drive in aid of the needy students, which was presided over by Wanga, an alumnus of the school.

Also present was Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang Nyong’o, County executive for education John Awiti, trade executive Farida Salim, and head of public service Judith Oluoch.

Wanga said the five students identified will start benefitting from next year.

She advised the students to work hard to boost their chances of succeeding in life.

Kisumu County Director of Education Rosemary Birenge urged parents to support efforts of the government to improve education in the country.

Birenge said the best gift that parents could give their children is education.
