Thousands of Narok residents converged at Olkinyei Secondary School in Osenetoi area of Narok West Sub-county to join the rest of the world in celebrating World Environment Day.
The County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and the County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia led the commemorations and Ntutu said that in the spirit of supporting ecosystem regeneration and environmental conservation, his administration, with the support of several partners, has distributed 20,000 indigenous trees to 20 primary and secondary schools across the county, with 20 churches and 200 farmers also receiving tree seedlings for planting.
The county’s target is to plant 4.5 million trees this year and thus far we have planted 1.5 million trees.
He echoed that the theme is: “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience: Our Land, Our Future. We are Generation Restoration.”

The governor thanked the partners including Kenya Forest Service, Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority, Maasai Mara University, National Environment Management Authority, Nguzo Africa, Action Africa, Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association, and Greenbelt Movement said that the ecosystems will be turned to self-sustaining ones.

The County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia thanked the partners who supported the event emphasizing that Narok should go green and drought will not be witnessed again.
