Despite schools reopening St Theresa Tala Girls Primary School in Matungulu, Machakos County, remains closed due to severe flooding.
Heavy rains have caused flood waters to inundate the school’s toilets and classrooms, creating unsafe and unsanitary conditions for students and staff.
The flooding has raised concerns about the health and safety of the students, forcing the administration to delay reopening until the situation is resolved.
The closure of St Theresa Tala highlights the broader issue of inadequate infrastructure and unpreparedness by schools to handle extreme weather conditions.

It underscores the urgent need for investment in resilient school facilities to ensure the continuity of education, even in adverse conditions.
