Nyamira MCA wants reassurance of safety before schools reopen tomorrow

Duke Masira, Nyamira Township MCA. He wants the government to fully reassure parents of the safety of their children before schools reopen tomorrow.

Nyamira Township Ward MCA Duke Masira has cautioned the government against opening schools on Monday before ascertaining the levels of safety.

Speaking in Igucha Primary School in Nyamira County, Masira said that the country is still in mourning of those who perished in the unpredictable floods in several parts of the country and wondered how schools can be opened amid fear and panic among parents, teachers and their pupils.

“Let the government assure us that our children will be safe in school by giving us daily updated alerts on the state of the ongoing heavy rain,” he suggested, sampling Igucha Primary School as an example, whose one classroom was destroyed and the playground is waterlogged.

He asked the Ministry of Education (MoE) to liaise with the media to keep the public informed instead of giving them unclear orders that leave them confused.
