Woman charged with operating unlicensed nursing school released on KSh300,000 cash bail

The director of Westwick nursing college has been released on a cash bail of KSh300,000 by a Kiambu court.

Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Merissa Opondo while delivering her ruling on Tuesday, May 7, said that Christine Nyambura, the accused person, cannot be denied bail since no reason has been presented to court that she will interfere with witnesses or be a flight risk.

Nyambura has denied seven charges of cheating and another charge of offering training in an institution without accreditation, licensing and registration.

She is however admitted at a Nairobi hospital where she is being treated after she developed health complications due to her pregnancy during plea taking.

Nyambura was charged that on diverse dates between January 20, 2023 and February 27, 2024 in Gigiri area within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court being the director of Westwick Institute Limited offered training in certified nurse assistant without accreditation, licensing and registration by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority.

She was also charged that between March 24 and April 30, 2023 in Gigiri area within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court by means of fraudulent tricks induced Gina Nuta to pay a sum of KSh250,000 to account number at Kenya Commercial Bank pretending that she was in a position to train and issue her with a certificate in Certified Nurse Assistance course.

She faced another charge of defrauding Cynthia Cheruto to pay KSh200,000, Evelyn Ajiki (KSh203,000) and Sally Wanjiru (KSh 428,500).

The magistrate had ordered that the investigating officer confirm with TVETA.
