KNQA holds workshop to draft national standards, guidelines for KCATs Policy

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) chairperson Stanley Kiptis has said that National Standards and Guidelines for the Kenya Credits Accumulation and Transfer System (KCATs) Policy are vital for implementing credit accumulation and transfer process nationally.standards

Speaking during the workshop aimed at drafting the KCATs standards and guidelines held on May 6, 2024 at Kyaka Hotel in Machakos County, he said, “These processes are essential for accumulating credits required to complete qualifications across diverse programmes and institutions.”

He encouraged all the stakeholders to actively participate, share insights, and contribute in bid to develop standards and guidelines that strengthen quality assurance, delineating benchmarks, criteria, and procedures for assessing and approving credit transfers.

At the same time, he thanked the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, and the Principal Secretary, State Department for TVET Dr Esther Muoria for the support in ensuring for a progressive implementation of the KNQF on sound national policies.

The KNQA established by the KNQF Act Chapter 214, is responsible for coordinating and supervising development of policies on national qualifications, recognition of competencies, facilitation of credit transfers and exemptions, and promotion of international recognition of national qualifications.

The workshop closes on May 9.
