The principal of a secondary school in Bunyala Sub -county, Budalangi constituency in Busia County is desperately appealing to well-wishers to support the learning institution to settle its debt totaling KSh1.3 million.
Addressing parents, teachers, students and education stakeholders during the school’s Annual General Meeting, Bunyala Model Secondary School Principal Angela Magero said that at the start of 2024, the institution had a student population of 34 boys with a debt of KSh2.7 million in terms of creditors and unpaid salary, but presently the student population has increased to 258 with the debt balance of KSh1.3 million.
The school principal lauded the school Board of Management who had thought wise to re-register the school from boys only to a mixed school.
She said a lot of re-structuring had been done aimed at the new students on board. The restructuring process involved re-registration of the school to a mixed secondary school, repair and purchase of new desks and chairs and some minor repairs of the existing classrooms among others.

“With the increase of student population, the number of streams increased from four to six bringing the number of lessons much higher than before. This has raised the number of teachers employed by the board to six and the employment of three cooks,” said the principal.
Magero lauded the area MP Raphael Wanjala who, apart from providing education bursary totaling KSh1.8 million to 180 needy students also helped in putting up modern kitchen after the existing one had been condemned by the public works department.
The learning institution head at the same time lauded the two Catholic priests Father Denise and Father Chris Baraza who donated two bags of maize and a cow respectively for the school feeding programme.
Other food aid the school received include rice and beans from the National Government that reduced the pressure of getting food in third term last year and early this year.
The occasion was attended by Bunyala Sub-county TSC director who represented the Sub County Director of Education George Owuoche, the Chief Guest Jacob Ndagwa, Director of Studies Charles Sidwaka, among other local administration officials among others.
