Residents of Kisii County have been thrown into mourning after a renowned academic Prof Ezekiel Okemwa passed on at The Week Mission Hospital after an illness.
According to his younger Dr Wilfred Okemwa, Prof Okemwa died after commissioning his family to accomplish the Prof Okemwa Scholarship Foundation’s dream of supporting young Cancer survivors, which had troubled him for a long time.
The 72-year old was a Laureate peace prize winner, a former director of Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI), and lecturer at Technical University of Kenya.
He was co-founder of Coral Junior and High School in Mombasa and chairman of Entaero Sacco.
According to his wife Rose Okemwa, the family lost a family pillar who cherished education and wanted everyone to acquire one.
Family members confirmed that the late Prof Okemwa will be buried at his Mtwapa home in Kilifi County on December 8, 2023.
The late Professor Okemwa is survived by his wife Rose Nyanchoka Okemwa, seven grown up children and grandchildren.
