Church demolished in Ongata Rongai over alleged sale of bhang to local youth

Police at a Ongata Rongai church where they nabbed bhang

Residents of Ongata Rongai in Kajiado North Constituency have demolished church following allegations of the sale of marijuana (bhang) to local youth.

The incident unfolded on a Monday evening when the police seized a substantial haul of bhang, estimated to be worth Ksh. 6 million, from within the church.

This illicit stash was discovered packed in 26 bags, with each bag containing 40 individual units of the illegal substance.

The Kajiado North Deputy County Commissioner, James Taari, disclosed that several individuals have been apprehended, and a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the main culprits behind this operation.

“What compounded the situation was the discovery that the suspects had purportedly slaughtered stolen goats and were in the midst of preparing for some sort of festivity,” he stated.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner noted that stolen electronic goods were also recovered within the premises of the church.

Taari further cautioned against religious institutions potentially leading their members astray by engaging in the sale of narcotics and cautioned that several such institutions are currently under police scrutiny.

A few weeks ago, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja Kirocho, paid a visit to the region to inaugurate the Gataka Police Station.

During his visit, he urged the police to redouble their efforts in eradicating the drug trade and the production of illicit brew in the area.
