51,000 candidates to sit for KNEC exams in Nyamira

Nyamira County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha at a past event

Nyamira County has more than 51,000 candidates for KCPE, KCSE and KPSEA with a significant portion being KCSE students with over 100 examination centers.

Speaking to Education News, the County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said that this could be the highest candidature slot in the County.

The commissioner acknowledged the KNEC’s efforts in providing secure examination containers in every sub-county, ensuring their efficient transportation to the examination centers with two security personnel at each center.

He also mentioned the shift from using buses for mass transport to more agile vehicles, capable of navigating challenging terrains.

“The pre-examination period witnessed students in Nyamira schools, such as Nyambaria Boys National School, Sironga, St. Kizito Nyansiongo, Kebirigo, and Nyamira Boys’ High School, familiarizing themselves with their examination halls,” Kyatha noted.

In Kisii County, Area Commissioner Tom Anjere assured the public of comprehensive security measures for the ongoing examinations, cautioning against the illegal trade in fake examination materials.

His message emphasized vigilance and the immediate reporting of any suspicious individuals.

Despite past challenges, Riokindo Boys High School, which had faced a dormitory fire incident, managed to restore order and prepare for the exams.

The school’s principal expressed optimism while highlighting concerns about acquiring apparatus and chemicals for practical subjects, primarily due to the high cost of living and inadequate fee payments.

Nonetheless, the principal had faith in the support of the community, elected leaders, and the church in overcoming these challenges, exemplifying their unwavering commitment to the school’s success.
