Kisii County Executive Secretary in charge of Environment and Natural Resources Leah Ogega has urged schools to embrace tree planting as part of conserving the environment and fighting climate change.

She placed a lot of emphasis on the growth of indigenous trees that are environment friendly as opposed to the exotic ones like the cyprus trees

Ogega and her team sensitized residents on the importance of maintaining, rehabilitating and conserving forests, further stating that the county government will support groups and individuals who conserve the environment.

She led schools to plant 1,000 trees at Ensaria Hill in Bonchari Constituency and asked the community to take care of the seedlings until maturity.

She also urged schools with huge parcels of land to start bee keeping programmes for both subsistence and commercial purposes.
