Two dedicated teachers lead passionate environmental conservation in Nyamira

Two teachers from Menyenya Secondary School, Samuel Miteka and Edward Abuga, have emerged as the driving force behind a fervent environmental conservation movement in Nyamira County.

They have responded enthusiastically to a Presidential decree calling for the planting of 15 billion trees across the country.

Starting within their own school’s environment club, Samuel Miteka and Edward Abuga have expanded their efforts to encompass various schools in the region.

“We began with the environment club in our school, but our impact is now extending throughout Nyamira County,” Samuel Miteka stated.

Inspired by the environmental initiatives of the Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High Environment Club, Miteka and Abuga have set ambitious goals.

They further said that they aim to collaborate with both secondary and primary schools in the county, with the objective of planting over 5 million trees within a single year.

Miteka also encouraged school management committees to allow free tree planting on their premises, emphasizing the collective benefits.

Both educators underscored the profound connection between education and a clean, tranquil environment.

They passionately urged their students to embrace environmental care, highlighting the valuable practical lessons that nature offers.

Additionally, the teachers pointed out the economic advantages of tree planting, from fruit production to potential income for school fees when trees mature.

In their dedication to education and environmental stewardship, Miteka and Abuga appealed to Nyamira County Members to unite and support education and development projects, rather than engage in conflicts with Governor Amos Nyaribo.
