1,500 students in Kilifi benefit from bursaries worth Ksh10M

Mariakani MCA Martha Kokir addressing residents

1,500 secondary school, college and university students in Mariakani ward, Kilifi County have benefited from bursaries amounting to Ksh10 million from the ward’s development fund.

Speaking during a public meeting in Mariakani town recently, the ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Martha Kokir said that the county government was prioritizing the education sector and had thus allocated a similar amount for each of the 35 wards in the region.

The MCA assured residents that no single bright secondary school student from the Ward will stay at home due to lack of school fees.

Kokir advised parents to take advantage of the funds and ensure they apply for bursaries for their children to enable them to pursue education and in turn boost education standards in the area.

“Many parents have not applied for bursaries for their children. This defeats the government’s efforts in raising education standards,” she lamented.

At the same time, Kokir urged parents to take their responsibility seriously and ensure all their children enroll to school irrespective of their gender.
