Kakamega First Lady to help teen mothers back to school

Sanitary pads

Cases of defilement have become rampant in Matungu constituency causing school girls to drop out due to unwanted pregnancies.

Speaking during a funds drive at Namamba Secondary it emerged that the constituency is leading in teenage pregnancies with over 13, 000 teen mothers who get pregnant through defilement.

However, it was revealed that Kakamega County First Lady Janet Barasa is determined to take teen mothers back to school and she has started a programme of issuing sanitary pads as well.

The program which will ensure the provision of sanitary pads to school girls will reduce unwanted pregnancies as most of them fall prey to Bodaboda operators and other unscrupulous men.

The first lady advised mothers to keep their girls safe by monitoring their movements and regularly having close conversations with them.

Parents are also urged not to cover up perpetrators of defilement but come out and report the cases to the authorities.

During the same event concerns were raised over the safety of girls at Mamamba secondary school which is surrounded by the forest
The school administration called upon the government and other stakeholders to help the school put up security measures including a perimeter fence to keep away intruders.
The school holding a population of 264 students is growing rapidly without  space.
They had a mean score of 4.5 in 2022  KCSE examinations and managed to take four students to university.
During the funds drive a total of sh. 627,387 was raised for development of the school.
