Education and training institutions across the country showcased their different talents in various aspects of music during this year’s Kenya National Festival.
They displayed the rich cultural wealth from different communities across the country.
The Executive Secretary for the Kenya Music Festival, Ms Janet Langat said the festivities attracted over 130,000 participants.
She said primary, secondary, middle level colleges and universities were all represented.
Langat said the festival provided a platform for preservation and perpetuation of the rainbow-clad cultures of our communities, apart from being an educational event in its own right.
She thanked the Ministry of Sports and Arts, as well as other organizations for the support it had given to the festival.
Prof. Rose Ongati, a professor of Music at Maseno University, said the training of the students was excellent.
She said the students had mastered the art of adopting music from different cultural backgrounds and singing them tolerably well.
She said exposure of learners to music and dance from cultures other than theirs helped them to appreciate other cultures, hence building a foundation for a cohesive society.
She said the festival was all inclusive as learners with special needs equally showcased their talent for music and dance.
