Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Ngugi has called upon the government to ensure timely disbursement of capitation funds to special needs schools for smooth operations.
Ngugi urged the government to prioritize such schools in order to make them feel appreciated and recognized.
She lamented that late disbursement of funds cripples operations in schools and that the government should intervene to provide infrastructural development, power supply, clean water and employ more teachers to Kamatunga Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired in upper Eastern region.
Child Welfare Association of Kenya representative Jane Mwangi said the organization’s main agenda is to respond to issues affecting children with disabilities with the aim of retaining them in schools.
She said with adequate food and a conducive learning environment, enrollment in schools will be retained.
