Western Regional Commissioner has asked school heads to ensure that food and water they serve to learners is safe for consumption in the wake of rising cases of students being admitted to hospitals due to consuming unsafe foods.
Mr. Samuel Irungu Macharia made his remarks during a meeting with all school principals, education officers and security teams drawn from Bungoma County at Lugulu Girls High School.
He said that Public Health Officers will be visiting the schools to inspect the water to ensure their safety.
“Water used for cooking and drinking at the school must regularly be inspected to avoid possible harm,” he said.
At the same time, Irungu urged the school heads to co-operate with their Boards of Management (BoM), parents and other education stakeholders in order to uplift education standards in the region.
He asked parents to elevate their collaborative approaches with teachers to prevent cases of indiscipline among students.
“Parents, please help our teachers by providing moral guidance so that they conduct themselves well at school,” he urged.
The Commissioner ordered Chiefs and their assistants to arrest and lock up men who impregnate school girls adding that those who gave birth but dropped out of school should be given an opportunity to continue their studies.
Also present was KUPPET Bungoma Executive Secretary Augustine Kundu Luketelo who urged the Ministry to ensure timely disbursement of capitation funds to public primary and secondary schools to allow smooth running of the institutions.
