Residents want MP to lobby for varsity in constituency

Constituency

Locals in Kangundo Constituency have appealed to their Member of Parliament Fabian Muli to lobby for a University in the area.

A recent survey revealed that a section of the residents noted that a higher learning institution avail education to their children closer and will also make the area grow development-wise.

“If we get a University, our children will not be forced to go to far places because we will have our own institution. Infrastructure and business will improve thus awakening the sleepy Kangundo town,” said a local.

Education News learned that in 2016, the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) signed a memorandum of understanding with former Kangundo MP Kyengo Katatha Maweu and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule and the facility was to be built at Kangundo High School grounds taking 10 acres of the existing 23.5 acres of land at the school.

“SEKU was to commit Ksh 50 million into the project but it did not even kick off, thus our joy was short-lived and we would like it if our MP would push to have the institution,” said another resident.

In an exclusive interview with Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, he explained that the burden of implementation lies with SEKU University and the current Kangundo MP Fabian Muli.

“I cannot comment on the matter but the implementation of the project lies with SEKU and Kangundo MP Fabian Muli. I was there to support my colleague because I knew the university would benefit my constituency too,” said Mule.

Kangundo MP however, did not receive our calls or reply to messages concerning the issue.
