Lukenya School basketball team is heading for the nationals after thrashing Mbooni Boys at the Eastern Regionals games in Meru School.
The stallions defended their 2022 title after scoring 75-32 against Mbooni High School.
The team’s coach Emmanuel Mwanzui told Education News that the team aims to perform better than last year at the nationals.
Mwanzui observed that it is not easy to know your opponents’ strengths thus the need for more training.
“Mbooni Boys is not a small team because they beat us in the first quarters but at the finals, we taught them a lesson. This year we have kept our focus in the regional championship and we are happy with the outcome.
“At the nationals, we are hoping for the best, last year we were able to beat one team and finished third. We hope this year we reach the semis at least,” he said.
The coach noted that the team has been trained and the school has been offering support where needed.
“The team is special because it has a history of basketball since 2009. Hard training is our cup of tea; we don’t let a chance to play against a good team pass by us. The team is also well-supported in terms of exposure and facilitation,” he said.
Other schools from Machakos which will be heading to the nationals include the AIC Nyayo Girl’s hockey team after winning against St. Joseph Girls’ Kibwezi.
Dr. Charles Muli Inyanzaani Secondary School basketball girls’ team will also be going to the nationals in Eldoret after beating Kwanthanze Secondary School in the just concluded games.
