Community elders laud Ruto, Raila for finding truce

Elders

Abagusii Cultural and Development Council of Elders have praised President William Ruto and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga for their decision to settle their difference through dialogue.

Speaking at Kisii town yesterday through their General Secretary Bosire Angwenyi, the elders said that the demonstrations that were led by Raila caused panic among learners of all levels and their parents.

“Some parents released their children to school and remained at vigil because they felt unsafe,” he said.

The elders asked the two principals to involve experts in their dialogue but cautioned them against using political brokers who put their personal interests first.

“We urge both parties to involve none partisan experts with the sole interest of the country at heart,” he said.

They also asked the Raila Odinga to preserve his long career in politics by engaging dialogue before any confrontations.

“We are happy that the two have agreed to sit together and dialogue but we are not proud because already some property has been destroyed and lives lost during the commotions,” said Bosire.

However, there are speculations that Raila Odinga is unhappy and is contemplating on calling for a second round of demonstrations as he was unable to meet the president who has jetted out of the country.

President Ruto is currently on an official trip to Rwanda.
