National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has called on parents to take care of their children during the December holidays.
Speaking to the press, Shollei said it was unfortunate that parents had left their parental responsibilities to teachers.
“As schools close for long holidays, I want to call upon parents to take up their parental responsibility during this long holiday,” said Shollei.
She added: “As I am talking, there are some parents who have already organized tuition classes for their children just because they say they are busy. We should stop this since it’s time for us as parents to monitor our children.”
She urges learners to occupy themselves by assisting parents with home chores and activities besides setting adequate time for personal studies.
Shollei also asked parents to monitor their children and be in the know of all the activities they involve themselves in.
“We are asking parents to ensure they know when their children go in and out. We want these children back in school in January in their right minds. Let’s ensure we monitor each of their activities and the people they hang out with,” she said.
The Deputy Speaker warned those having affairs and impregnating school-going girls that they will be arrested and arraigned in Court.
“I want to issue a stern warning to those impregnating school girls that I will ensure you are arrested and taken to court. I cannot stay mum while the future of our girl child is being tampered with,” she said.
