At least 10 mobile phones belonging to candidates, exam officials and police officers manning KCSE examinations have been seized at Eldas Boys Secondary school in Wajir County and are in the custody of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Detectives from Eldas Police Station reportedly got wind of examination malpractice at the examination centre and promptly visited the suspected classroom where Chemistry Paper 1 was underway.

After completion of the examination, the officers conducted a search inside the room and recovered three phones inside the lockers. The detectives also confiscated phones belonging to seven exam officials including the two police officers offering security at the exam centre.

“All the phones are being kept as exhibits at Eldas DCI office awaiting analysis and further probing,” reads the police report in part.

“After getting intelligence, we went to the exam centre at 12:30 pm and made our catch,” it continues.

Confirming the incident, Wajir Deputy County Director of Education Ibrahim Sheikh said it was unfortunate that instead of burning the midnight oil, the students resorted to shortcuts.
