21 year old man in police custody for child defilement

A 21 year old from Kisii county narrowly escaped death by mob justice after being found defiling a 14 year old school girl.

The parents of the school girl revealed that she had been sent to the shop to buy sugar when her attacker confronted her.

Janet Gesare, one of the villagers, revealed that she heard screams of help from a nearby bush and quickly reached out to some men for help.

The irate men wanted to lynch the suspect but they were stopped by a clan elder who asked them not to take the law into their hands.

The suspect was handed over to Keumbu police station officers for interrogation while the assaulted girl was taken to Keumbu Level 5 hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

Keumbu Division Assistant County Comissioner Jeram Wachira confirmed the sad incident and sent a stern warning to those found defiling children.

“Children’s rights are clearly stated and must be protected. Whoever breaks the law will face dire consequences,” he warned.

He thanked the public for not taking the law into their hands but asked them not to be lenient with child defilers.

He revealed that the suspect will be arraigned in court after police investigations are over.

“He has recorded a statement with the police and he will be taken to court on charges of child abuse and defilement,” he said.

He asked Chiefs and their Assistants to strengthen security in their areas of jurisdiction to protect all residents during the December festivities.
