Term two school calendar to be extended

By Peter Otuoro

Kenyan Education Calendar’s term two will be extended to compensate for the time lost by activities of the general elections.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KSSHA) National Chairperson Indimuli Kahi said the government will extend  the second term to give KCSE and KCPE candidates enough time to cover the syllabus and prepare for their final examinations.

In a brief interview with a local radio station this morning, Mr.Indimuli disclosed that he had consulted the Principal Secretary of Basic Education Dr.Julius Jwan and they had agreed to convene a meeting with Education stakeholders in order to restructure the term and compensate the time lost during the just completed elections.

“We want to give all KCSE and KCPE candidates together with all teachers enough time to cover syllabus and adequately prepare for national examinations,“ said Mr. Indimuli.

Mr. Indimuli further added that 2022 is a critical transitional year which  should be handled with care because Grade Six learners will join Junior Secondary, Grade Eight learners will join Secondary School and the Form Four students will be joining higher education institutions.

He used that opportunity to thank Kenyans for maintaining peace during and after the election, a situation that he said will enable students to report to their respective schools and continue with their learning without interruption.

The Chairperson also reminded all parents to pay school fees on time so as to enable school heads to run schools smoothly.

“Parents should pay school fees to enable all school heads in Kenya to run the schools efficiently because students will have to eat, school workers will have to be paid and suppliers will need their money,” he said.

  1. We are tired of this postponement of 2022 academic year dates. Let the exams be undertaken on the earlier stated dates to avoid disturbing 2023 academic year dates.

    1. It’s good that school calender be extended to cover the lost 2 weeks. However, how long is the extension?
