Two secondary schools in Kisii County have benefitted from their area Members of Parliament after their dormitories went up in flames and students lost their belongings in the fire.
At Magena Secondary school, the area MP Nolfalson Obadiah Barongo donated 50 mattresses and blankets to the students whose belongings were reduced to ashes in the dormitory fire early this month.
Speaking at the school on Thursday, Mr. Barongo asked learners to desist from indiscipline cases which hindered their education.
“We discourage such cases of indiscipline across our constituency because it dilutes education standards,” he said.
According Principal Mr. Joel Mwene, the cause of the fire had not been established although 9 students were arrested to help the police with investigations.
Kenyenya Deputy OCPD Mrs. Everlyne Kurgat confirmed arrest of the suspects.
Mr. Mwene estimated the cost of the damaged dormitory and students’ property at Ksh. 2.8 million.

From Bonchari constituency, area MP Dr. Charles Onchoke donated 100 mattresses, cartons of soap and other boarding materials to St. Paul’s Igonga Secondary school to assist students whose personal effects were consumed in a dormitory fire.

The dormitory worth Ksh. 1.5 million went up in flames in the morning hours while students were having their morning studies.
“We appealed to well-wishers to come to our aid and our MP was the first to respond,” said the Principal.
Dr. Onchoke told the students that he expected good examinations results and not cases of arson.
He asked teachers to remain resilient in the midst of the economic pressures and continue nurturing the students.
“Your hard work will not go unnoticed by God because He rewards honest work,” he said.
The MP promised to solicit funds from friends and other well-wishers to help in rebuilding the dormitory.
