KNEC moves to own office, services offered under one roof

Management of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) processes will be undertaken from a central location to enhance their efficiency.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha said this will also significantly improve security and maintain the integrity of national assessments and examinations,

The CS said this while commissioning KNEC headquarters at New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi.

Prof Magoha said the Council will have its entire staff under one roof to effectively address security and logistical challenges it faced while operating from different locations.

“Although the New Mitihani House project is still not complete, the relocation of the staff and the KNEC headquarters to South C is an important step in the right direction,” he said.

Despite the challenges of operating from different locations, Prof Magoha lauded the council for effectively delivering on its mandate.

The relocation, he said, will save the Government rental costs, which can be channeled to other development projects, notably the completion of the remaining work which had run for 37 years.

The CS called on the KNEC CEO Dr David Njengere to ensure CCTV and biometric systems are installed.

Dr Njengere said the relocation is a relief to KNEC clients, stakeholders and field officers, who had to traverse the city to get services.

KNEC officers have also been moving across the city over the years, losing critical time and consequently affecting service delivery.

He noted that with the relocation, they shall achieve better efficiency and cost effectiveness in their daily operations.

Magoha called on KNEC Chair Prof Julius Nyabundi to ensure the g Strategic Plan goals are effectively implemented, adding that his knowledge and wealth of experience will help the Council remain strategically focused to sustain the ongoing reforms.

Nyabundi on his part expressed readiness to serve the country and ensure KNEC offers credible examinations and assessments.

Some of the offices that have relocated include those that were previously housed in the National Housing Corporation (NHC) building and in the Ministry of Public Works along Likoni Road in Industrial Area.

KNEC was also previously housed at the National Bank of Kenya (NBK), Extelcoms Building, as well as in the Old Mitihani House.

The CS was accompanied by Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Sara Ruto, Parliamentary Departmental Committee on Education and Research Chair Florence Mutua, Principal secretaries Dr Julius Jwan and Prof Fatuma Chege.
