Five children living with disabilities in Matungulu Sub-county of Machakos County have received wheelchairs to improve their access to education.
The initiative was undertaken by Matungulu parliamentary aspirant Philip Munyao, at an event that took place at Tala.
Dr Munyao said that pupils living with disability need support to promote independence stating that many children born with a disability grow up a struggle.
“Now these children can play freely, do things on their own and even interact with the other children without difficulty as before,” he said.
Dr Munyao urged parents to such children to bring them out to get help. There are schools, organizations and bodies meant for them; it’s no longer that time disabled children were being hidden from other people. These children need education, healthcare and other things just like other children,” he said.
Winnie Maingi, a teacher at the school, noted that the donation was a boost for children living with disability at the school which accommodates them.
“We say they have special needs, they are not disabled. We wish to thank everyone who played a part in ensuring these children have a reason to smile,” she said.
Munyao also promised that if elected MP he would push for bills helping people living with a disability.
Be blessed Hon Dr Phillip Munyao Mutisya Munyambu for making this kids smile it’s a blessing to you,we are behind you come 9th August this year we are ready to vote for you as our member of Parliament
