Governor aspirant promises graduates jobs if elected

By Enock Okong’o

Former Kisii County Senator Chris Obure has said his priority as the county governor will be the creation of Job opportunities for young graduates.

He said there are many jobless graduates in the county who can be engaged in result-oriented research for their personal and the county’s economic prosperity.

“All that our young graduates need is working tools like computers and tasks, then you will see the perfect results,” he said.

The experienced politician, who talked at Magena town in the county, cited the high banana production from the region and said that if the agriculture sector could be harnessed, it could create employment for graduates who can work as field officers, factory managers and sales executives.

Obure, who is seeking the Kisii County gubernatorial seat, appealed to the youth who are the majority in the county to vote for him because he has good plans for them.

The legislator, also a former minister for finance, promised that he will use his wider knowledge and long experience in politics to encourage the East African Community to open gates for export of the extra qualified manpower from the county.

“Countries like Sudan do not have enough teachers. I will use my long experience in government to extend our relationship with the country to absorb our qualified unemployed teachers,” he promised.

He thanked Vicky Onderi, the aspiring Kisii County Woman Representative, for starting the banana tissue culture laboratory in Kisii town and asked the young scientists from the area to use it in research on food security.

Obure expressed optimism to capture the seat because his manifesto addresses the youth who are the major victims of the dwindling economy.

Obure will battle it out with Prof Sam Ongeri, another veteran politician and former education minister,  Manison Oyongo, Ezekiel Machogu and Simba Arati.
