Laikipia University has launched a community FM radio station that seeks to reach out to farmers from Laikipia and Nakuru counties.

Through its programmes, the station seeks to provide information, education and knowledge to farmers on agricultural practices so as to improve productivity in the regions.

Laikipia University Vice Chancellor Kibett Rotich said the station will provide the latest news to farmers regarding farming practices that are climate smart.

“Farmers from Nyahururu, Subukia and parts of Bahati will benefit from the information we share. We also urge them to feel free and get to the university for clarification in case they have issues,” he said.

Rotich added that the FM has also been mandated to share knowledge on health, business, innovation, technology, investment, education and forestation.

He expressed pride that the station will enable communication and media students from the institution to sharpen their skills in programme production and news delivery through practical sessions.

University Education Deputy Director Nanjakululu Owanambirifuma, who represented Principal Secretary for State Department for University Education and Research Simon Nabukwesi, said the radio station will strengthen the bond between the community and the institution.
