The Chief Principal of St. Pauls Gekano Boys’ High School in Nyamira has defended himself after residents of Bomachoge Borabu Constituency said he disappointed them for failure to go for the seat of area MP in the general elections.

The residents had visited Albert Ombiro, the principal, on Wednesday at his Kiru home.

“We came and approached him two years ago to go for the seat but now we are disappointed when we have heard that he has not resigned yet,” complained Stephen Kiamna, one of the residents.

It took the Chief Principal’s father much time to talk and convince the seemingly disappointed residents about the whole matter.

He revealed that he was aware about the desire for the teacher to go for the seat of but could not explain what happened in the process. The resident even asked for a call to Albert but it went unanswered but it was later discovered that he was busy monitoring the ongoing KCSE examinations at his school.

When Education News contacted the principal, he said that the residents had approached him to go for the position but in the process of weighing their request to reciprocate, he was barred with time.

“You know I am an employee of the TSC who could not walk out like that without their permission,” he said.

The principal who is a former Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman said that he loves his students but expressed that if  the public felt he could serve them better, then he will make considerations latter.

“I am a professional teacher guided by the teachers’ code of regulations that binds me to love my work and that is what I am doing now,” he briefed.

On questions of speculations that that he had been given money by influential politician for him to step down, he was quick to respond, saying: “I am above being bought by anyone, how could I step down for someone yet I had not even declared  to seek any political position?” he wondered.

The principal who is a staunch Catholic believer, asked those who were scandalizing his name to stop and embrace love and tolerance as these are sacred to God.

He said that his main objective at this time is to pray for his candidates to perform well in their ongoing examinations and the preparations in ushering in of the new form  one students next term.

Mr. Ombiro asked parents to prepare their children well by providing them with enough guidance on the importance of quality education instead of engaging in political rhetoric.
