The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has opened a new Regional Offce in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking after launching the offices on 25Th February 2022, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Vocational and Technical Training Dr. Margaret Mwakima disclosed that the office will cover the entire North rift region.

“Opening a new satellite office in the Rift Valley region is part of our plans to decentralize our services so that we can serve our customers better where they can easily reach us instead of going to Nairobi offices,” she said.

The Eldoret TVETA office is the fourth one to be opened in the Country after Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa.

“We look forward to greater compliments and I am sure counties will be happy to receive independent quality assurance reports from this office and make interventions for continued improvements,”she added.

Dr. Mwakima said that both governments need accurate  data for planning  purposes.

“It is important  that this office  maps all TVET institutions and weed out illegal colleges which are offering fake courses thus wasting time and funds belonging to unsuspecting students. We will ensure that such colleges are closed with immediate effect,” she affirmed.

She reiterated that the government will soon recruit trainers in TVET Institutions  to bridge the gap that has lately been witnessed.

“The government  through the Public Service Board has given us a green light to recruit 3,000 new trainers. The recruitment process will come in the next financial year as we continue to negotiate with the treasury to finance the entire process,” Dr Mwakima said.

During the launch, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago called on youths to join technical institutions for them to get technical skills, therefore earning themselves a living.

“I want to call upon youths especially those who have completed their O level to join technical institutions for them to get technical skills that will make them earn a living. Let us stop this notion that TVET institution are meant for failures,” Governor Mandago said.
