Parents have been asked not to neglect the boy-child while focusing on the girl-child.
Speaking at Matungulu constituency, former MCA Magdalene Ndawa said a lot of focus has been directed towards the education of the girl child and the boys have been neglected.
Ndawa, who is vying for the seat of the woman representative in Machakos county, said many boys have dropped out of school as a result of the neglect and opted to abuse drugs in local shopping centers due to lack of meaningful jobs.
‘As we mind the welfare of the girl child, let’s not neglect the boy child because they are also our children. We need to strike a balance between the advancement of both the girls and boys,’ she said.
Ms Ndawa asked the youth to register as voters so as to choose leaders who will prioritize on important matters such as education and other developmental issues.
She added that many young adults were reluctant to register as voters.
‘Voting in the right leaders can change the way a country is governed and make jobs available to the young unemployed people,’ she explained.
