Matuga MP Engineer Kassim Sawa Tandaza has threatened to stop bursaries for errant students found engaging in school arson and indiscipline.
His sentiments come weeks after two schools in Matuga lost properties of unknown value due to student unrest as dormitories in Mwaluphamba and Golini Secondary Schools were set ablaze.
Tandaza who was talking over KTN News called on parents to take up their parental responsibilities and raise children well or risk losing bursaries and sponsorships.
He said it was unacceptable for parents to pay school fees for students only for them to cause mayhem and destruction in schools instead of learning.
Besides the NG-CDF, the MP also offers help through Tandaza Foundation, a sponsorship for bright and needy children in schools.
The engineer parliamentary representative said he will not hesitate to terminate the sponsorship of any students who will be linked to the arsons.
He expressed disappointment that some of the burnt schools were those he and poor parents helped construct classrooms, laboratories and hostels and also installed learning equipment.
The MP blamed parents for the increasing indiscipline cases amongst their children, saying they have abandoned their parental responsibilities.
Along the same lines the Matuga Police Chief Ambrose Aloo warned parents against inciting children to violence in school.
The police boss’s warning came after Mwangunga Girls High students joined parents in protesting against their principal. The students reportedly attempted to assault and block the head teacher from accessing the school compound.
“I know the education law is hard on you but there are many ways of disciplining children that principals and the school boards can use to stem the vice,’’ he said.
Recently the Education CS George Magoha sternly warned parents and students over school unrest.
The CS warned that parents whose children are found culpable in causing such chaos will bear the cost of reconstruction.
He said the repair cost would be added to school fees for all students in the affected schools regardless of their participation.
Tandaza who underscored the need for education urged parents and students to embrace learning, saying that the culprits of school arsons and unrests will treated as criminals and punished in courts of law to serve as example to others.
He told them to take advantage of the bursary and sponsorship programs to improve their lives and living standards.
“Make hay while the sun shines,’’ he urged the students.
